Frequently Asked Questions For Organisations
Got a question? We’ve got you covered.
Here are some of the most common queries about our services.
What types of organisations do you work with?
We work with organisations looking to improve attraction, recruitment, workforce planning and hiring processes. This can include NHS organisations, public sector teams, SMEs and growing businesses.
Are you a recruitment agency?
No. Dobson Consulting is not a recruitment agency. The focus is on advisory and consultancy support, helping organisations improve recruitment performance, reduce process challenges and build more sustainable hiring approaches.
What problems can you help organisations solve?
Support may include:
· Difficult-to-fill vacancies
· High agency spend
· Poor attraction rates
· Recruitment process delays
· Candidate drop-off
· Weak employer branding
· Ineffective workforce planning
· ATS and recruitment process reviews
· IR35 and workforce governance support
· Hiring manager capability and consistency
What makes your approach different?
My background combines operational recruitment delivery, workforce transformation and governance experience gained within complex NHS environments. I understand both the strategic and practical realities organisations face and focus on solutions that are realistic, sustainable and data-informed.
Can you support short-term projects?
Yes. Support can range from one-off reviews and workshops through to longer-term consultancy projects depending on organisational need.
Do you provide retained recruitment services?
No. The consultancy focuses on advisory support rather than supplying candidates or operating as a traditional recruitment agency.
Can you review our current recruitment process?
Yes. Recruitment process diagnostics are designed to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, candidate experience issues and areas where organisations may be losing talent unnecessarily.
Do you support NHS workforce and IR35 governance?
Yes. I have significant experience supporting workforce governance, off-payroll compliance and recruitment process governance within NHS environments.
Can support be tailored to our organisation?
Absolutely. Every organisation is different. Support is designed around the specific workforce challenges, priorities and objectives of each client rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
How do we get started?
Usually with an initial conversation to understand the current challenges, goals and areas where support may add value. From there, recommendations and next steps can be discussed.
Frequently Asked Questions For individuals
Got a question? We’ve got you covered.
Here are some of the most common queries about our services.
Who do you support?
I support individuals at all stages of their career, particularly those working within the NHS, healthcare, HR, recruitment, operational and corporate services environments. Whether you are applying for your first role, looking to progress, returning to work, or considering a move outside the NHS, support is tailored to your situation.
I’ve worked in the NHS for years. Will my experience translate outside the NHS?
Yes, often far more than people realise. One of the biggest challenges is not capability, it’s translation. Many NHS professionals undersell highly transferable skills because their CV or application is written in internal language. I help people position their experience in a way external employers can understand and value.
What support do you offer for job applications?
Support can include:
· CV reviews and rewrites
· LinkedIn profile optimisation
· Supporting statement guidance
· Interview preparation
· Career coaching
· Job search strategy advice
· Confidence and positioning support
Sessions are practical, honest and personalised.
Do you write CVs for people?
Yes, but collaboratively. I don’t believe in producing generic CVs that don’t sound like the individual behind them. The process focuses on understanding your experience, strengths and career goals so your CV feels authentic and commercially strong.
Can you help if I don’t know what role I want next?
Yes. A lot of people reach that point, especially after long NHS careers or periods of organisational change. Sometimes the first step is simply identifying what your skills are worth, what environments would suit you, and what options you may not have considered yet.
I’m nervous about interviews. Can you help with that?
Absolutely. Interview coaching focuses on helping you structure answers clearly, communicate your value confidently and reduce some of the overwhelm that interviews can bring. Mock interviews can also be tailored to NHS, public sector or private sector roles.
Do you only support NHS staff?
No. While I have extensive NHS recruitment and workforce experience, I also support individuals from other sectors who want practical recruitment and career guidance.
How are sessions delivered?
Most support is delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams, making it flexible and accessible regardless of location.
How much does support cost?
Pricing varies depending on the level of support required. Clear pricing is available on the services page, and bespoke support can also be discussed if needed.
Will you be honest with me about my CV or application?
Yes, always professionally and constructively. The aim is not criticism, it’s helping you understand what may be holding you back and how to improve your chances realistically.
